The 4th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) will be convened in Uppsala on 15-18 June 2011. ECAS 2011 is co-organised by NAI and the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies (AEGIS). Founded in 1991, AEGIS is a network of African Studies centers in Europe. It aims to create synergies between experts and institutions. With primary emphasis on Social Sciences and Humanities, AEGIS' main goal is to improve understanding about contemporary African societies. Read more about AEGIS here.
Uppsala – Venue for ECAS 2011
The historic city of Uppsala is an academic focal point in the Nordic region with two universities, a number of important libraries and several independent research institutes. For more information about Uppsala refer to this slide show (requires PowerPoint).
ECAS 2009 - European Conference on African Studies (ECAS), 4-7 June, Leipzig, Germany
NAI participated in the third biennial conference in Leipzig, Germany, from 4 to 7 June 2009. The overall theme of ECAS 2009 was "Respacing Africa". NAI was represented by the following:

All researchers gave papers and several had panels. NAI also had a book exhibition. NAI librarians participated in a meeting of librarians from African studies centers in Europe. At the closing ceremony NAI Director Carin Norberg welcomed the participants to Uppsala for ECAS 2011.
