Disclaimer

The websites in the link collection, A Guide to Africa on the Internet, are chosen primarily on the basis of their relevance to the rest of the library’s collections and to research carried out on contemporary Africa. We also allow web pages with broader contents, which we consider are of general interest.

Our choice of websites includes those with factual content, such as those of public authorities and of established organisations. Websites with contributions to debates and personal points of view also exist.  Although websites containing contributions to debates and newspaper articles, personal websites, and the websites of political parties may present both interesting and pressing problems, they often reflect subjective opinions. We exclude openly offensive web pages, however, and aspire to present those with accurate contents.

It is important to point out that the Internet environment is variable and dynamic.  This means that websites we at first considered relevant, inoffensive and unbiased may change from day to day. Moreover, links can lead to material, which differs from that to which they refer.

We recommend that our users use their good judgement and that they follow the guidelines applicable to published material when evaluating sources. For more information on evaluating Internet sources we recommend the chapter in Studying Africa entitled, “African information on the Internet”.
