Sexual desire, morality and female genital cutting

NAI researcher Maria Frederika Malmström is invited to discuss her research carried out among Muslim Women in Cairo at a WHO-seminar on 27 September.
− I will discuss experiences of sexual desire in relation to discourses of sexuality in the context of circumcised Muslim women. My paper is part of an extensive study about constructions of gender through the prism of female genital cutting and the interplay with the wider social dynamics in Egypt before the revolution, says Maria Malmström.

Maria Malmström has contributed a chapter in a UN-report and also in a book from Swedish Sida. Her research findings are referred to in a WHO-report on eliminating FGM.
