Mobile phones have big impact in Africa

Nearly 60 percent of Swedes aged 16-74 are using a smartphone or mobile. Something we often forget is that in many African countries mobile phone development has had far wider impact than in the West.
- The mobile phone has affected the development enormously. China sell cheap versions on the Nigerian market and you can now get a phone for 100 to 150 SEK (approximately 20 USD). This has meant that many people have access to a mobile, says Ulrika Trovalla, researcher at NAI .
People with very little education can communicate even if they can not read or write so well. The mobiles are also used e.g. instead of a bank account.
