Youssou N´Dour awarded Polar Music Prize

Musician Youssou N'Dour from Senegal and composer Kaija Saariaho from Finland will share the Polar Music Prize 2013. Youssou N'Dour broke through with the group Super Etoile de Dakar at the end of the 70th century. His global breakthrough was in the 1990s through partnerships with, among others, Peter Gabriel.  Youssou N'Dour is also Senegal's culture and tourism minister.
"His voice covers an entire continent's history and future, blood and love, dreams and power," the prize committee states in its citation.
