Instagram contributes to more nuanced image of Africa

The people behind the project 'Everyday Africa' (opens in new window)  hope that the photographs on Instagram will give a more nuanced picture of the continent. Press photos from Africa often show starvation and political violence. Through everyday photographs taken with mobile phones a more complex picture of different countries emerge. The project began when freelance photographer Peter DiCampo put up his daily photos on Instagram. He discovered that his " less serious" images gave a more honest picture than his more well-planned projects.
