More attention to social dynamics

NAI researchers Judith Verweijen and Maria Eriksson Baaz, together with Jason Stearns, have written a report on armed mobilization in the DRC. One of the conclusions is that poorly managed demobilization and military integration has contributed to continued armed mobilization.

– There is a need for longer-term DDR programmes which pay more attention to the wider social dynamics of reintegration, including the role of former armed group networks and the communities in which combatants are to be reintegrated, says NAI researcher Judith Verweijen.
