Clash of religions in Africa?

The rise of extremist movements has tightened the relations between Muslims and Christians in Africa. Mats Utas, researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute, has observed that tensions have increased during the last 15-20 years.

– It seems as if religion has become a symbol of differences even though conflicts in themselves do not necessarily have a religious background. Religions have a central role in many African countries and cannot be ignored. By preaching peace religions can accomplish a lot of good, says Utas.
