Africa in focus

In connection with the Africa theme at the Göteborg Book Fair a catalogue presenting African authors has been published. All African authors that will participate during the four day long book fair that kicks off on September 23 are portrayed in the catalogue. In their respective introductions, Henning Mankell and Véronique Tadjo write about the fight against illiteracy and the multidimensional and innovative African literature. The catalogue, in Swedish, is available for download here.

The African authors together with NAI researchers will participate in seminars at various scenes and events at the stands in the exhibition hall. The NOMA award recipient Sefi Atta will take part in the seminar Out of Africa on September 24. Similarly, Brian James, NAI guest writer 2010, will participate in the same discussion.
A compilation, in Swedish, of all seminars arranged by Afrika 2010 is available here (pdf).
The Göteborg Book Fair’s seminar programme (in English) and entire events programme (in Swedish) are available to download (pdf).

The Africa stand (H06:01, second floor) officially opens at noon on September 23. It will host 69 events. At 9.30 am, on the same day, Adebayo Olukoshi and Lennart Wohlgemuth will meet to discuss Africa, 50 years after independence. The Africa stand’s programme in full is available here (Swedish only).

The Afrika 2010 project is an initiative implemented by NAI with financial support from Sida, the Swedish Arts Council, the Swedish Academy and Helge Ax:son Johnsons Foundation.
