Nordic Africa Institute's library nominated for Swedish libraries’ top distinction: Library of the Year 2006!

9 June 2006
The jury’s motivation: ”The Nordic Africa Institute's library in Uppsala has skilfully and systematically built up a unique collection on contemporary Africa. Nordic scholarship holders, international researchers and Uppsala residents can bear witness to an abundant library, which takes pains to provide a first-class service. With the mandates assigned to the Nordic countries, the library has broadened its horizons and made literature and study material available globally, as well as   to local schools and an interested public.”

Every year since 1986 the national trade union, DIK, has bestowed the distinction of Library of the Year on a Swedish library. Three nominees are chosen from a number of proposed libraries. One of these is then appointed Library of the Year at the Gothenburg Book Fair, held in September.

”We are very pleased about our library being nominated for this distinction - not just we, as librarians, but the entire institute as well. We see this as unique to the symbiosis between library, research, publishing, and information activities, and to what this can offer a user concentrating on contemporary Africa. The nomination is a well-earned spur for our activities,” says Head Librarian, Åsa Lund Moberg.
