The African Union (AU) and Civilian Protection

Researcher: Linnéa Gelot
Project established in 2011.

This project analyzes the norms and practices of the AU as an emerging peace and security actor. Of particular interest are questions of how the AU member states and the AU Commission make use of human protection norms and with what effects. I rely mostly on qualitative methods, such as in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The project was funded by the Gothenburg Centre of Globalization and Development (GCGD), University of Gothenburg, and the Nordic Africa Institute.
