The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) has a collaboration on research cooperation and capacity building in African studies.
The NAI-FOI lecture series on African security issues will continue in 2012. The overall theme for this year is the position of four large AU member states in the continued AU cooperation within peace and security. The states are South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia and Nigeria. The lecturers will address questions on the countries’ positions on supranationalism/
intergovermentalism; priorities of AU/sub-regional cooperation; willingness for payments, etc. The background to the theme are the recent geopolitical changes in Africa. The “Arab Spring” has amongst other things resulted in transformative developments in some of the union’s five largest financing member states, which could lead to a review of strategic relations.
