Workshop I:
A double heritage of democracy
11-14 May 2006 in Helsinki

In view of the very real democratic traditions among the Somalis and other peoples of the Horn of Africa and of the presence of these people in the Nordic countries, the workshop aims to critically examine the extent and limitations of the democratic traditions of the Horn of Africa and of the Nordic countries, to see how they influence our actions today and our choices and decisions for the future. The approach should be multidisciplinary, including considerations such as gender, ecology, language and literature, education, politics and law.
