Academic background

Ilmari Käihkö is a PhD candidate at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University (opens in new window). He has previously worked as a research assistant at the Department of Strategy and security, Swedish National Defence College (opens in new window). Käihkö has both civilian and military field experience in Africa, first working on development cooperation in Tanzania and later deploying as a part of the Finnish contingent to the UN MINURCAT peacekeeping force in Chad and Central African Republic. He also spent most of 2012 investigating the post-conflict realities of former mid-level commanders in different parts of Liberia, mostly close to the border of Côte d'Ivoire.
