Mikael Eriksson is a deputy research director at the Department for Security Policy at the Swedish Defence Research Agency. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. His main field of research is peace- and security studies with a particular focus on regional organisations and power-politics in the Middle East and North Africa. Over the past years, he has conducted extensive research on EU and UN sanctions. He is currently involved in research on the African Unions Peace and Security activities. Starting in the fall 2016 he will be a part-time senior research fellow at the Nordic Africa Institute.
