Rose is furthermore a guest researcher at the Centre for African Studies, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, during 2006. During her time at NAI, Rose was working on her PhD thesis entitled “The Formation of Contemporary Artists in Africa: Revisiting Residency Programmes” which is examining the formation strategies of African artists. Rose, who is an internationally renowned artist enjoyed the creative atmosphere at NAI and appreciated the rich collection of African art and craft displayed at the Institute. Rose also used her artistic and playful spirit to embellish the rather bleak terrace at NAI. With the assistance of her fellow study scholarship holder David Korpela from Finland, she transformed an anonymous heap of pebbles at the terrace into an artistic design with typical NAI features. On 31 May, the piece of art was inaugurated by the Director of the Nordic Africa Institute, Carin Norberg, and an exhibition of pictures of Rose’s artwork was arranged in the NAI lunch room.
