20-22 May: Finnish International Educators' Days
In Levi, Finland. NAI Director Iina Soiri will participate in a panel on International Collaboration & Global Responsibility and in one on Finnish human rights based approach in research and higher education development cooperation. The seminar will be held at National Museum of Iceland on 27 May between 1.30 and 6 pm.

Co-organized with the Swedish Institute Alexandria. The conference will be held in Alexandria, Egypt. NAI researcher Maria Malmström participates.

Symposium co-organised with the Forum for Africa Studies at Uppsala University. Etnografiska Museet, Stockholm, Sweden. Time to be announced.

3-4 June: Conference on "Concept Africa"
The conference will be co-organized with University of Helsinki. At the Nordic Africa Institute, Protea room. Time to be announced.

3-4 June: Conference on "State-Building Approaches and Politics of Negotiation: Lessons that could be learned from Somaliland and South Sudan"
The conference will be co-organized with Institute for peace and conflict studies, University of Hargeisa, and held in Hargeisa, Somaliland. NAI researcher Redie Bereketeab will be participating.

24-25 June: The first of two 2013 UNU-WIDER Development Conferences will be held in Helsinki
The conference titled ‘L2C – Learning to Compete: Industrial Development and Policy in Africa’ builds on the research from the collaborative project between UNU-WIDER, the Brookings Institution and the African Development Bank, and aims to bring together research on industrial development and industrial policy in Africa. NAI researchers Mats Hårsman and Francis Matambalaya will participate. Call for papers is open until 31 January. 27-29 June: ECAS, 5th European Conference on African Studies
The fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 27 to 29, 2013. It will be organized by the Centro de Estudos Africanos - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Center of African Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon) on behalf of AEGIS, the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies. Its general theme will be ‘African Dynamics in a Multipolar World’.

3 July: NAI at Almedalsveckan
NAI's event takes place on Wednesday July 3rd 11-12, at 'Sverige i Världen', Donnersgatan 6, Visby. 'Images of Africa: miracle or misery?'. Participants in the panel are Maria Eriksson Baaz, Kjell Havnevik, Mats Utas from the Nordic Africa Institute, Joachim Beijmo, Head of Communications, Sida and Marika Griehsel, moderator and Africa-journalist.
