First time visitor

The Nordic Africa Institute's library is open to everyone. To get going making use of our materials and facilities we recommend you to register with us by applying for a library card.

Apply for a card

Read through our loan rules and then move on to apply for a library card:

Then bring your identification document (ID card, driver's licence, passport etc.) and collect your card at the library.

You will be required to sign your application form. You are thereby bound to abide by the library's rules and regulations. This is also your authorization for your details to be registered in the library users' register.

Why do I need I card?

You need to register (= have a library card) in order to:

  • Borrow books from us.
  • Reserve material currently out on loan.
  • Renew loans and update your contact information.
  • Order from the stacks.

You do however not need to register to use our search tool AfricaLit Plus (although you receive more results when logged in) to order interlibrary loans through your local library, to use our Internet computers, or to use free resources available through our web pages such as databases and electronic journals (which normally can only be accessed within the Uppsala University campus).

Interlibrary loans

Those living outside Uppsala can borrow material from us through interlibrary loans. Contact your local library for more information.
